SUPPORT TO INTEGRATION OF ROMA, ASHKALI AND EGYPTIAN CHILDREN IN PRESCHOOL EDUCATION (TOGETHER)

The aim of the project was to improve early childhood development (ZHFH) outcomes and readiness of disadvantaged Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian (RAE) children aged 5-6 in selected localities by improving the parental skills of RAE parents, strengthening the connection between parents and schools, expanding access to integrated NCD services, And the quality of teaching and learning.

Project components, activities and expected results:

Component 1: Improving access and participation in society through non-segregated services of ZHFH aims to eliminate existing barriers to participation of RAE children aged 5-6 in preschool education in selected localities, from providing material and intensive communication with RAE parents through preschool mediators and information campaigns. This component includes activities to (a) address financial and transport barriers in preschool education of RAE children aged 5-6; (b) facilitate the entry, registration and attendance of RAE children aged 5-6 at preschool level and the transition of RAE children aged 6 into primary education through identification, recruitment and training of school mediators.

Component 2: Improving the skills and practices of RAE parents, aims to significantly improve the skills and practices of parents (especially mothers, of RAE children aged 5-6 in selected localities through formal literacy training and storytelling learning). Establishing a parent school for building awareness and skills to implement good parenting practices (Community events with parents for early childhood nutrition, health and education), and increased interaction of UDP parents in preschool institutions.

Component 3: Improving the quality of the services of the ZHFH aims to improve the quality of teaching and learning of RAE children in preschool by strengthening the capacities of educators to provide child-centred education. This component includes activities to strengthen the capacities of preschool teachers to offer child-centered education by improving teaching and learning in preschool through capacity building activities that promote children’s access to the center of ZHFH.
