Supporting transformation of schools into an environment that is safe and free of violence

Specific objective: The main aim of the project is strengthening the capacities of schools to provide a violence free environment through the establishment of peer mediation groups and increasing the knowledge on prevention and response on school violence; Updating the existing guidelines for the protection and safe usage of internet, targeting children in the primary and lower secondary education and developing new guidelines for the protection and safe usage of internet, targeting children of upper secondary education age.

 

Project activities:

  • Identify 30 schools from the targeted municipalities as partner schools of the project and constitution of the peer mediation programme
  • Deliver trainings to school staff based on the “Peer Mediation Program”.
  • Organize school-based workshops to incubate initiatives on how to disseminate the idea of conflict resolution and peer mediation.
  • Development and implementation of Action Plans for peer mediation programme at school level.
  • Organisation of awareness raising activities and project visibility.
  • Organize a closing conference for sharing good practices among schools and with other stakeholders.
  • Organize training for school staff on monitoring and mentoring implementation of Peer Mediation methodologies
  • Organize monitoring and mentoring visits to partner schools.
  • Establish a group of experts on Internet safety for children in close cooperation with MESTI to update the guidelines for the safe internet usage by students in the primary and lower secondary education and develop new guidelines for youth and adolescents in the upper secondary education.
  • Update the content of the Guidelines for protection and safe usage of internet, targeting children of primary and lower secondary education.
  • Develop the Guidelines for protection and safe usage of internet, targeting children of upper secondary education.
  • Design and layout of the Guidelines and their publishing into the MESTI website as resource materials.

 

Project outputs:

Output 1: By the end of June 2024, strengthened capacities of teachers and students in 30 schools (in selected municipalities) to deal with conflicts through conflict resolution and peer mediation methodologies

Output 2: By the end of June 2024, strengthened capacities of school officials to monitor and support implementation of the conflict resolution and Peer mediation methodologies.

Output 3: By the end of June 2024, the guidelines for the safe internet usage by students in primary and lower secondary education are updated, and new guidelines are developed for the safe internet usage by students in upper secondary education
