DEVELOPMENT OF TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR MATH TEACHERS (GRADES 1-5 AND 6-9)

The aim of this project was to develop two mathematics training programs for grades 1-5 and 6-9 and build teachers’ capacities for implementing approaches to new student centers. The project was organized into three separate contracts:

1. Development of training program for teachers in general mathematics (grades 1-5) and training of trainers,
2. Designing the training program for teachers of mathematics (grades 6-9) and training of trainers,
3. Implementing the teacher training program for teachers of mathematics (grades 6-9).

The general math teacher training program (grades 1-5) focuses on applying techniques and strategists to the classroom. The training program for math teachers (grades 6-9) focused on methodology rather than issues, and has 60 contact hours. In addition, more than 100 teachers of mathematics from four municipalities of Kosovo were trained on the basis of this program. Both programs are accredited by the Ministry of Education and the credits earned can be used to meet the requirements for the teacher licensing process.
