CONCEPTS OF CITIZENSHIP OF PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN KOSOVO

The main objective of the project was to assess the level of understanding of the concepts of citizenship among kosovo students and to determine the modalities for intervention. The overall objective of the project “Concepts of Citizenship among primary school students in Kosovo” was to contribute to the development of democratic society in Kosovo. The main activities of the project were:

• A research into understanding the basic concepts of citizenship has been carried out with school children throughout Kosovo. 25 schools with 1500 students in 8th grade were the subject of research. A report from the research was prepared and published. The report was a basis for future intervention in this area.
• A handbook for teachers in civic education has been developed. It relies heavily on research results, and helps teachers address important issues in the teaching of citizenship. To facilitate this process, trainings and information sessions with civic education teachers have been organized.

Key results:

1. The understanding of citizenship among Kosovo’s children is assessed through research.
2. A handbook for civic education has been produced.
