TOGETHER FOR EQUALITY IN EARLY CHILDHOOD

This is the second phase of the project “Together” Support the integration of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian children into preschool education. The project aims to improve the outcomes of early childhood development and the readiness to continue teaching for Roma children in need mainly aged 4-6 in 4 countries by improving their parents’ parental skills, strengthening the connection between parents and preschool institutions, expanding access to services integrated in early childhood development and increasing the quality of teaching and learning.

In addition, with selected relevant partners the project aims to support the improvement of the situation of early childhood development of Roma children throughout Kosovo by advocating at national level for welfare and rights for quality education.

Project activities and components:

Component 1: Improving participation in regular services for early childhood development

The goal of this component is to eliminate existing barriers to access to pre-primary education and participation of Roma children aged 4-6 in certain localities by expanding access to preschool education, providing material necessity-based, Providing furniture and pedagogical materials to renovate preschools and intensive communication and work with parents of RAE communities through pre-primary mediators and information campaigns.

Component 2: Improving parenting skills of Roma parents

The purpose of this component is to improve the skills and practices of parents (mothers, in particular) of Roma children aged 4-6 in selected localities through formal literacy and storytelling training (Your Story); Lessons with school parents on building awareness and skills to implement good parenting practices (Community events with parents for early childhood development, health and education); And increased parental interaction with pre-primary institutions.

Component 3: Improving the quality of services for early childhood development

The purpose of this component is to improve the quality of teaching and learning of Roma children in preschool by strengthening the capacities of educators to provide the education of children in the center through tailored trainings for the education of children in the center and comprehensive and regular field mentoring services.

Component 4: Advocating for the right to quality education for Roma children

The purpose of this component is to create advocating initiatives to raise awareness about the benefits of inclusion of Roma children in early childhood programs. The advocating initiative in cooperation with KRAEEYN – will target the society as a whole, mainly decision makers at local and national level to create a more favorable education framework in Kosovo.
