MENTORING PROJECTS TO SUPPORT EDUCATION OF ROMA, ASHKALI AND EGYPTIAN COMMUNITIES

The main objective of this project was to improve the implementation capacities of all three organizations implementing projects to support the education of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities.

The project activities were:

• Monthly reporting of the centers

• Field visits

• Organizing meetings between centers

• Training of teachers working in the Centers

• Training with teachers of public schools

• Printing a leaflet The main achievements of the Project were:

• Non-governmental organizations: Association “Durmish Aslano” in Prizren, NGO “Ashkali Community Center” in Dubrava and Bethany Christian Services (BCS) in Gjakova, Each month they had to present some kind of report on the work and development of activities. These reports have been merged into a single report that has been a good overview of the project development. The report was also a kind of “supervisor/stimulator” for activities to take place at the earlier time.

• Field visits organized by KEC, aimed at closely looking at the development of activities. The target of these visits were not only the project implementation NGOs, but all beneficiary parties, partners, in other words all involved parties. This has also helped to have a more realistic overview of the activities.

• How the other achievement of this project is the organization of several joint meetings with representatives of three centers, namely three NGOs, implementing the project. During these meetings there was exchange of experiences and new initiatives have arisen to develop various activities that contribute to the field of education for RAE communities.

• In the best fulfillment of the objective of this project, the organization of trainings, be it with the staff of the centers/NGOs, as well as with other teachers of public schools working with children of RAE communities. These trainings have influenced the capacity building of these centers, and at the same time have provided them with knowledge of new teaching methodologies and contributed to the elimination and reduction of prejudices, stereotypes and discrimination. For this purpose within this project, and within this campaign against discrimination and segregation, a leaflet was drafted and published.
