DIDACTIC CENTERS IN KOSOVO

DIDACTIC CENTERS IN KOSOVO

The aim of the project was to contribute to the advancement of the teaching process in Kosovo’s schools, by creating an information system on modern teaching strategies, methodologies and innovations. The project helped establish five resources and teacher training centers (didactic centers) in five regional centers of Kosovo: Prizren, Ferizaj, Gjakova, Peja and Gjilan One of the main reasons for the introduction of the concept of didactic centers in early 2000 was the lack of teaching resources in schools and the lack of perspective that would be possible to provide even simpler resources for schools in the short and medium term. The orientation was to provide simple materials and equipment that can be used by most teachers, regardless of working conditions in schools. Posters, designers, educational video cassettes were just one part of the equipment and materials procured in the centres. Once the market was developing and the offer expanded it was possible to buy other materials. Most of the service trainings in Kosovo, foreseen in the period 2000-2003 were conducted in didactic centers. In three years, more than 8500,<> teachers and school administrators managed to train in didactic centers. Trainings are offered by the staff of didactic centers or KEC contractors and other training providers. After the completion of the project activities, didactic centers have been handed over to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and they continue to serve their purpose as part of the Education System of Kosovo. The main activities of the project were:

  • Creating adequate conditions for preparing the teaching activities
  • Providing access to information for teachers
  • Facilitating the flow of information on good teaching
  • Organizing training for teachers and school leaders.
